The second most popular web browser in the world, and quickly gaining. You can not build a successful web site unless you have tested it with Firefox. A must have for any developer or web designer.

Internet Explorer
The world's most popular web browser and recently updated to version 7. If you don't have it yet consider it, your customers have.

Safari (for Windows)
Third in the list and the most popular browsers for users of Mac computers. Worth the few minutes to explore your web site to make sure mac users get the same experience as everyone else. Remember Mac users are customers too.

Opera
Light, fast and reliable. Opera is the only browser to date to be 100% standard compliant. Check your site with Opera and you will have a heads up over potential problems with new and upcoming versions of the major browsers.

Netscape Web Browser
These days Netscape is just Firefox with some add-ons and a new theme. Not really worth the trouble, but there are some die hard's out there.

FTP Clients

Filezilla FTP Client
Our FTP Client of choice. Fast, solid and easy to use. This is the program we use to build our FTP tutorials so if you are new to web development consider downloading it and giving it a go, it will make life easier.

HTML Editors

Adobe (formerly Macromedia) Dreamweaver
The best web page editor in the world, bar none. It does cost money but there is a free 30 day trial available. Worth every cent if you intend to build your own web site.

HTML-Kit
Free Web page building software with lots of add-ons that cover most aspects of building a web site. Worth learning if your budget doesn't allow buying Dreamweaver.

Microsoft Visual Web Developer Express
A free offering from Microsoft. Not quite a full replacement for the discontinued Frontpage but a free tool that is very useful.

Javascript Editors

Aptana IDE
About the only professionally designed, and useable Javascript IDE on the market. Also allows for the creation of HTML (Web) pages. If you need javascript you need Aptana.

EMAIL CLIENTS

Mozilla Thunderbird
Almost a replacement for Outlook Express and Outlook. If you just don't like the Microsoft products this maybe worth exploring. Probably a year or so off being a full replacement, but very useable and very effective none the less.
